Neurasmus cohort 2023-2025

Neurasmus is preparing me to become the neuroscientist I've always aspired to be. I chose Neurasmus because it offers me a high-quality education, equips me with the skills to be a critical scientist, and affords me the opportunity to study in various universities, granting me a fresh perspective on the world through immersion in new cultures and languages.

As a future researcher, the chance to intern in neuroscience laboratories, acquire new techniques, and build a network of fellow neuroscientists will undoubtedly provide me with the invaluable experience and knowledge needed for my Ph.D. or a career in the industry. These are two opportunities for which I will be definitely prepared after undergoing Neurasmus training and career counseling.

I am someone that loves to travel and experience what it’s like to live in different places with different languages and culture. I chose Neurasmus because it enables you to travel and experience new places as part of your studies. It’s also difficult to find programs that include a scholarship for your studies, and I am very grateful for the scholarship and stipend that I am receiving as part of Neurasmus. The cohort is great and Bordeaux is even more beautiful than I imagined, so I’m very happy to be here!

Neurasmus opens up opportunities for a curious person like me to learn how to navigate the intricacies of the brain and the complexities of the world. While pursuing my interest to study neuroscience, I get to enjoy the privileges of moving to different countries and universities, and meeting amazing and lovely people from multiple cultures and different walks of life. As such, this program encourages holistic growth for scientists-in-training like me to develop academic expertise and social/public communication skills, both of which are important qualities of scientists that the world needs today

I was drawn to the Neurasmus programme due to my keen interest in neuroscience and a passion for cultural exchange. Coming from a psychology background, I see immense value in the programme's offerings to develop new skills. It's a thrilling prospect to be a part of a programme that not only connects people from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds but also promises a wealth of new learning experiences. I'm excited to embark on this journey, confident that Neurasmus will facilitate connections and learning that extend far beyond the classroom.

I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be a part of Neurasmus, as it is building the foundation of my future endeavors. It is opening a world of possibilities for me, transforming my passion for neuroscience into a reality of scientific exploration. Here, I am privileged to study in renowned European institutions, immersing myself in cutting-edge research, and collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the field. With the skills and insights that I am gaining here, I am becoming well-prepared to work towards my dream of revolutionizing therapies for brain disorders and establishing a hub of computational neuroimaging in Pakistan. Being a part of this program, I am also experiencing a unique international exposure that is broadening my horizons and allowing me to appreciate diverse perspectives in the multicultural environment of Europe. Neurasmus is truly a life-changing journey, and I am excited about the contributions I can make to the world of brain science in the years to come.

I nurture an unwavering passion for exploring the body’s most intricate organ, particularly to be well-positioned to address from the bench-side the world’s neurological problems that are mostly without definitive cures. Also, to learn from highly ranked institutions and develop a solid relationship with scholars in neuroscience. In parallel, I aspire to advance neuroscience frontiers globally through rigorous research and dedicated teaching, thus nurturing the next generation of scientists. Moreover, my desires extend beyond academic boundaries as I also love to travel the world, learn from enriching cultures, and expand my worldview. In this regard, I have always longed for a program that will give me the rare privilege to marry my academic and personal aspirations together. Interestingly, Neurasmus perfectly satisfies these yearnings as it provides a robust curriculum with state-of-the-art research in neuroscience, top-notch professional training, and solid industrial affiliations via global internships, which are pivotal for my personal and professional growth. Lastly, as a first-generation student from a low/middle-income country (Nigeria) and financially humbled background, the Neurasmus funding scheme facilitates smooth stay and mobility across European countries.

I chose the Neurasmus program for the diverse learning environment it creates which enables students to grow both in and outside of the classroom. I also appreciate the emphasis the program puts on community building. It is a gift to be able to broaden my perspective on how neuroscience research is conducted in multiple different countries. I am looking forward to learning from and collaborating with my "Neurasmates" from all over the world!

While my official journey hasn't kicked off just yet, I'm already brimming with anticipation and gratitude. What makes Neurasmus so special to me? Well, first and foremost, it's the opportunity to dive headfirst into the captivating world of neuroscience. The program's reputation for top-notch academics and its commitment to interdisciplinary learning have me feeling like a kid in a candy store eagerly awaiting the first taste of knowledge from some of the brightest minds in the field. However, it's not just the academic excellence that's got me excited. Even before my official start date, I've had the pleasure of connecting with future classmates and current Neurasmus students. The warmth and support I've encountered in this budding community are nothing short of heartwarming. It's like finding your own academic family before you even unpack your bags! The prospect of learning alongside peers from diverse backgrounds and cultures is something I'm genuinely looking forward to. I believe this diversity will not only enhance my academic experience but also broaden my horizons in ways I can't yet imagine. I look forward to my time with Neurasmus being about nurturing holistic growth. I'm eager to jump into extracurricular activities, internships, and research projects that will not only expand my knowledge but also prepare me for a fulfilling career in neuroscience. So, even though I'm on the brink of starting my Neurasmus adventure, I'm already feeling the excitement and gratitude. Coming from medical background, I was always interested in the mechanism behind neurological diseases. The Neurasmus program is the best opportunity to discover different aspects of neuroscience.

The Neurasmus program caught my attention for multiple reasons. I
perceive the possibility of studying at different universities and
conducting research in various labs as a way to develop a richer
perspective on a topic due to science's intrinsic interdisciplinary
nature. Also, such an interdisciplinary perspective is only enriched
by the diversity within the body of students, which is another aspect
that profoundly attracted me to the program. The combination of a
training program with the strengthening of the students’ theoretical
background definitely stood out to me, as well as the possibility of
choosing a specialization in the second year.

It is undoubtedly a great privilege to take part in a program as international and unique as Neurasmus.
I have come to find that one of the greatest benefits of this program is the exposure to diverse perspectives and approaches in Neuroscience research. Interacting with mentors, students and professors from different cultural backgrounds has broadened my horizons and allowed me to see neuroscience from different angles. Additionally, the program offers a wide range of opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities. From conducting internships in cutting-edge laboratories to attending conferences and
workshops led by renowned neuroscientists, every aspect of the program is designed to provide its candidates with hands-on experience and exposure to the latest advancements in the field. This singular opportunity has provided me with a major momentum to further advance in my studies and career.

A young aspiring neuroscientist needs a well-designed program that offers intensive instruction and training. I appreciate the flexibility to chart one's own academic trajectory, and the virtue of self-sufficiency promoted by the programme. The main factor that motivated me to apply to the Neurasmus programme is the incredible opportunities for mobility it offers. As I had already moved abroad for my undergrad, I was seeking a masters programme that would allow me to keep moving around the world as I benefit from the best levels of teaching and infrastructures. I believe becoming a Neurasmus student provides not only amazing prospects for the future, but also an extremely valuable sense of community and solidarity between faculty members, alumni, and students.
